Karen Warrington

I am an experienced and dedicated leader in special education, currently serving as CLPT SEND Executive (part‑time) from September 2024 until my planned retirement in August 2026. My role focuses on providing strategic leadership across the Trust’s specialist settings, supporting school self‑evaluation, improvement planning, curriculum development and assessment. I bring extensive knowledge of working with children with complex needs and significant experience of leading special schools. I am committed to partnership working and to ensuring that every child is valued, supported and able to thrive academically, emotionally and socially.

 

Previously, I served as Executive Headteacher of Vale of Evesham School (2022–2024) and Headteacher of Broadmeadow Special School (2003–2022), where I led the school through two Outstanding Ofsted inspections. My career in special education began after completing a B’Ed Degree specialising in learning difficulties, followed by teaching roles in two special schools before joining Broadmeadow in 1993 as Deputy Headteacher and later becoming Headteacher.

 

A significant aspect of my leadership has been my involvement in Teaching Schools. I was invited by a special school Headteacher in Sandwell to lead their Teaching School, which strengthened my expertise in school‑to‑school support, professional development and system leadership. In 2015 in partnership with Heath Park School, we formed our own Teaching School Alliance and I was designated a National Leader of Education, a role I found both enjoyable and challenging, requiring sensitivity, perseverance and a strong belief in my own values. The role reinforced my belief that collaboration, shared practice and mutual support are essential to improving outcomes for children with SEND.

This collaborative working with Heath Park School was instrumental in my decision to join the Trust in October 2016.
